Sunsets at Big Sur
Witnessing beautiful sunsets at Big Sur is a spectacular event for many people who visit, however we proceed with caution as silhouettes of enthusiasts scurry for the best views. Regardless, the sunsets are brilliant, as the blue and green haze are removed almost completely, leaving the longer wavelength with orange and red hues anywhere around — even from your car. How can you pass up a ray of white sunlight beamed through the atmosphere, even through scattered colors above you with air molecules changing the final colors. Yes, it’s mesmerizing as the Big Sur sunset cross path through the atmosphere. Additionally, the blue and green haze are eventually removed almost completely, leaving the longer wavelength with a dark red sunset.
With rich sunsets and cliffs plunging hundreds of feet down to rocky coves with foamy surf, it’s no wonder why people consider the sunsets at Big Sur beautiful. And if you hike up the cliffs at Big Sur, plan an artistic experience, where you can immerse yourself in the midst of the Los Padres Forests overlooking dramatic coastal views. Just be careful, there’s falling rocks and mudslides — and wildlife such as mountain lions, bears, snakes, let alone poison oak.
If you happen to stay longer to find other areas to capture the sunset around Big Sur, there can be silhouettes of pelicans on a huge rock. Interestingly, they make a wonderful subject matter as the reddened sunset appear, scattered by hazy clouds.

Pfeiffer Beach
As you are at the end of your stay at Big Sur, and you are around Pfeiffer Beach, find yourself winding through dirt roads and no parking signs, hopefully a hazy sky that produce brilliant spectrums of rich glowing reds and oranges appear. So, to make a long story short, if you drive through the Big Sur area, don’t expect to see any arrows pointing, or signs that say, “Here’s the way to the most beautiful view”. I mean, some of Big Sur’s greatest gems are easily missed from the highway. Luckily, there are pull outs to park and take in the views and fresh air. Enjoy!
