The Search for Salmon Creek at CA Highway 1

To the Waterfalls in California

A place called Salmon Creek, about 58 miles from Monterey, California is tricky to locate. After driving 58 miles south of Monterey, hikers can view a waterfall minutes from the highway. In order to park, you would have to search for a horseshoe shaped turn. If you are lucky to find the area, you can see cars parked along the highway. Hoping to have a nice hike or campsite.

The drive can be a treacherous adventure. Falling rocks, mudslides, not to mention finding a safe parking space to see Salmon Creek Waterfall up close.

If you are hiking from the highway, the Salmon Creek waterfalls can be seen about a third of a mile. The falls are on the boundary of the Salmon Creek Trail and the Silver Peak Wilderness. We hiked on the trail to the waterfalls that thundered on the boulders. We took our time climbing on the boulders to get closer to the sound of the crashing waves of water. We sat and relaxed for an hour and half.

The storm and rainfall around the waterfalls are now keeping the highway closed, so check before searching the falls.

Dark Sunset at Big Sur

Painting Light to Dark Red

https://youtu.be/KAhR0uI22CQ

The two images above are from a painting I created with a variety of reds on the beach that lasted fifteen minutes. The sea of sunset colors from light red to dark crimson was captured in the late autumn, early winter at Pfeifer Beach, Big Sur, Ca.

There’s a theatrical illumination with the water as it captures the reflection of the sky | and infinite variety of colors due to changing atmospheric colors.

I paint with light to dark crimson, colors of the sea, such as ultramarine blue, or teal.  There’s burnt umber for the rock with a keyhole and some light shining through from the setting sun. Artistic patterns flows towards those who watch.

Being in front of an easel you feel the atmospheric changes. I can be flowing, agitated, or calm, depending upon the appearance from the red sky to the beach.
